Metronidazole (Generic Flagyl®) is a nitroimidazole anti-infective medication. Usage, Directions, Indication and Instructions. This medication is used mainly in the treatment of infections caused by susceptible organisms, particularly anaerobic bacteria and protozoa. This eliminates bacteria and other microorganisms that cause infections of the reproductive system, gastrointestinal tract, skin, vagina, and other areas of the body. Adverse Reactions, Precautions and Warning. You should inform your doctor if you are allergic to it or any other medications. Do not forget to mention to your doctor and pharmacist what prescription and non-prescription medications, vitamins, nutritional supplements, and herbal products you are taking and your medical history. This tab may cause side effects like vomiting, diarrhea, upset stomach, loss of appetite and dry mouth. Inform your doctor if symptoms persist and if other symptoms other than mentioned are experienced and will not go away. You should know that drinking alcohol while taking this drug is prohibited; alcohol may cause an upset stomach, vomiting, stomach cramps, headaches, sweating, and flushing (redness of the face). Dosage and Administration. This med is usually taken two or three times a day for 5-10 days or longer. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take this exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor. Important. Antibiotics will not work for colds, flu, or other viral infections. It is important to finish the treatment even if you started feeling better.
